In Episode 19 of the podcast, I talk with Lily Bui, a researcher and journalist exploring what she calls sensor journalism. Sensor journalism, as she says it, is a method of collecting data using sensors — usually lots of them — and using that data to tell a story. So, it’s a lot like regular journalism, but totally different. It plays into recent trends toward data journalism – meaning the use of big datasets to tell stories in accessible ways. You can learn more about it, and the rest of Lily’s research in the links on the show notes. You can find out more about Lily at lilybui.info and on Twitter .

Editor & Host at The OKCast
In addition to hosting the OKCast, I am a Ph.D. student in Youth Studies at the University of Minnesota. I study methods of making research to document injustice and resistance available to young people to create social change. My particular focus is on the political economy and ecology of data, including data collection, data use, data access/sharing, data economics, and the ideologies surrounding it.
